"The Generals" by Shel Silverstein

Storyboarding is everything when bringing a written story to life. It was a lot of fun coming up with my own visual representation of Shel Silverstein's poem. Sometimes you just need your imagination to go wild in order to get the results you want.
In the pre-production process, I was trying to decide if I should use raster or vector for my art style. I ended up using a combination of both because I like bringing art styles together and creating another style that I can use in the future. As you can see, I utilized both of these styles and shots in my final animation.
I separately layered the different parts of my characters in order to puppeteer them. To get the mustaches to sync with the dialogue, I distorted and warped them to look like they were forming consonants. I even warped the smoke clouds in the background to make them look like they were moving.
